The Mysterious Slurpee

mystery

7Eleven has come out with two new Mystery flavors for their Slurpee machine. Intrigued by this enigmatic campaign, the detective in me (who has read one too many mystery novels in my youth) decided that a quick trip down to 7Eleven was warranted to solve this mystery.

mystery poster

The trip involved planes, trains and automobiles (technically, since I was in KL at that time) and I arrived at 7Eleven to find out more about the two new Mystery flavors. ??? were abounding and they needed answering.

sleuth

I decided to look into Mystery Flavor 2 while my dear Watson, I mean, Irene went for Mystery Flavor 1.

mystery slurpee

Elementary, my dear Irene!

mystery 1

Mystery Flavor 1 tastes like a grape based Slurpee, which Irene preferred. It has an almost blackcurrant aftertaste and although I can’t identify the exact flavor of this mystery Slurpee, my taste buds tells me it has a hint of citrus as well.

mystery 2

Mystery Flavor 2 tastes like a mango based Slurpee. I liked this one better. It reminds me of the Slurpee I had in the very same 7Eleven outlet that saved me from a moribund state after a particularly dehydrating episode of partying. πŸ˜‰

poison

One man’s meat is another man’s (or woman’s) poison.

vote

Vote for the flavor you like best. I’m going for Mystery Flavor 2.

mysteries

The two new Mystery flavors is a very interesting marketing campaign by 7Eleven. I don’t even know what the flavors really are! However, the thirst quenching qualities of the 7Eleven Slurpee is still present in abundance. You should check it out if you haven’t had a Slurpee before and if you’re a regular imbiber, the new flavors are definitely worth looking into.

ending

The 7Eleven Mystery Flavor 1 and 2 Slurpee is out now in all outlets and there will be a contest running during the promotional period up till the 5th of October, 2008. Slurpee users are encouraged participate and vote for their favorite mystery flavor amongst the two varieties.

voting alt

The contest forms are available at all participating 7Eleven outlets and the winners will be selected from the winning pool with the highest purchase and correct answers (there are two very easy questions). You have to mail in the contest form with the Slurpee receipt.

Find out more about the contest here.

Guess what the prizes are? 1,000 mystery prizes.

Yup, you read that right. Even the prizes are a Mystery. πŸ˜‰

The Making of the Nike Advertorial

nike script

I received the Nike advertorial pretty late in the game (pun intended) and scripted out two major scenes that I wanted to be in the writeup. The first was to be shot at an athletic wear/sports gear shop/active lifestyle outlet (I don’t even know what these places are called nowadays anymore ;)) to do the visualization (Read: camwhoring) aspects of the design contest.

script

Due to the limited number of such outlets in Sibu carrying Nike products, I decided to go to Lea Sports Center at Wisma Sanyan since I distinctively remember them having a Nike showcase while I was…er, getting adidas trainers earlier this year. πŸ˜‰

cast crew

Thus, I geared up in my Nike ACG (All Climate Gear) windbreaker that I got in KK back in 2004 before climbing up Mt. Kinabalu (the highest mountain in South East Asia) for a bit of product placement pimpage and went out with Clare to do the photo shoot after work.

script 1

It should be noted that my tracksuit trousers were actually adidas and so were my trainers. It doesn’t look very obvious though so I thought it would pass The All Seeing Eye of Nike. πŸ˜‰ I do have Nike apparel in my current wardrobe – I remember getting a limited edition Nike tennis shoe during the Melbourne Open 2003 and have several other pairs of Nike trainers.

nike sweatshirt

There’s also a Nike sweatshirt with a hoodie that I got for chilly spring weather in Melbourne which has found a new role as a tattoo concealer for Casual Saturdays in the office. The dress code in my office does not allow for visible tattoos so I wear long sleeves every single workday – even on Saturdays. Yes, we do work half day on Saturday over here in Sarawak.

nike swoosh

We then proceeded to eat dinner at Sushi Tie and got the waitress to camwhore with me. I liked the deer-caught-in-headlights expression on her face. I’m going to caption this “Fear the Nike Swoosh“. πŸ™‚

script 2

I proceeded to Delta Mall to meet up with Mary who was going to do the second major scene for the advertorial. I got a a lot of stares from people due to my athletic gear – I looked like I just finished a particularly grueling training session, but I kinda liked the attention. Heh! You’ve got to be able to take the double takes and stares if you’re a blogger going all out.

clare mary

Anyway, the second bit called for a video shoot in which I was getting heckled by two people while running laps around the mall. I initially planned for Mary to be doing the heckling but she introduced me to this guy who was PERFECT for the role. This is the take with only Mary doing the heckling:

I preferred the one with both of them doing the heckling so that’s the one I submitted for the advertorial. Mary is great as usual with her excellent repertoire of expressions and I loved the guy coz he pulled off the correct intonation and derisive-yet-humorous gesture in a single take. The video calls for me to be doing slow laps (basically a simulated slow run) while two people calls out:
“You run like a girl” and
“My grandmother runs faster than you”

script 3

The duo had great localization which was not in the script with Mary going “You run like a girl lah” and the guy going “Hey, my grandmother runs faster than you, okay?” which I really liked.

However, the best scene in the advertorial is, IMHO, one that I did not anticipate or script out. I was having my nicotine fix after finishing the photo shoot when I saw a security guard outside the mall doing the same. I remember the shoplifting scene for the Oreo advertorial and decided it would be fun to include the same theme into this one.

guard

I got the security guard to grab me while I was attempting to run and he was kind enough to comply. This was the best ending for the writeup since I figured I could put in a quirky caption before the contest regulations. It ended up being “…and design a lightweight pair of trainers so I can outrun mall security next time“. πŸ™‚

Deleted Scenes:

ready alt

Ready…

set

Set…

go

Go…

I had also planned a Ready, Set, Go series of photos (this is the original trio) with me doing all three poses but decided to include just one (the Ready pose) due to fears of an unintentional overdose of camwhorage. πŸ˜‰

The exclusion was a really good decision in hindsight coz it seems so cheesy now. Heh!

Bonus Features:

jay chou

The girls convinced me to do a Jay Chou pose. I’m not even sure why I did that, since I don’t even listen to his music!

This was one of the fastest advertorials that I’ve ever done with all the shoots completed in a day from script to editing. It was fun to go with the flow and see what scenes came out that wasn’t planned out. Cheers to Mary and Clare for helping out on this one!

KL Trip Day 1: Meeting up with the Nuffnang team and Julian Hopkins blog research project

bangsar heights

I arrived in KL last Monday to do some stuff related to my impending sister’s wedding. I was supposed to meet up with Grace at 6 pm after she gets off work coz I was crashing at her place at Bangsar Heights for two nights, so I had an entire afternoon to kill.

julian hopkins

I arrived at around 12 pm and met up with Julian Hopkins, who is doing a blog research project. He’s doing his doctorate in cultural anthropology about bloggers and wanted an interview with me. Read more about this research program about bloggers here.

soo kee

Julian wanted to bring me to this famous duck rice stall but it was closed so we ended up eating at the equally renowned Soo Kee Ipoh Chicken Kueh Tiaw soup.

soo kee stall

I expected the kueh tiaw to be like the Sarawak type of kueh tiaw (which is thicker) but the ones served here are much thinner and it’s really good.

soo kee chicken

The broth was absolutely infused with chicken soup and it’s very tasteful and not too filling as to induce post lunch coma.

soo kee soup

I love this stuff, I haven’t had it before since I’m not a big fan of soup dishes…until now. The Soo Kee Ipoh Chicken Kueh Tiaw soup really is that good. Anyway, Julian brought me to Monash University after that for a taped interview, which took up most of the afternoon. He kindly sent me back to KL Sentral so I could meet up with Grace. Julian is a really nice person so help out with his research program okay? πŸ™‚

grace ong

Grace took me back to her apartment in Bangsar Heights where I stayed for the next two nights. I wasn’t really comfortable with the idea of sleeping with my future in laws since I smoke and all that and Grace’s room is a smoke-free room (as in you can smoke for free ;)).

jalan alor

I wasn’t due to meet up with my sister’s fiancΓ©’s family until the next day so I hooked up with the Nuffnang team for dinner at Jalan Alor.

alor eat

Timothy suggested Restauran Sun Chui Yuen which is a bit of a tourist trap.

alor beer

I had a couple of beers…

alor food

…and we ordered quite a lot of food.

alor nuffnang

L-R: Samantha, Timothy, Nicholas, Yee Hou, Grace, Huai Bin (me).

Thanks for the dinner Nuffnang! It was great meeting up with all of you. The Nuffnang team are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. πŸ™‚

LG Scarlet – The Saga Continues

scarlet

I’ve always wanted to do three things before I kicked the bucket – write a book, travel the world and direct a movie. I haven’t got the chance to do the first two but the last one is finally within my reach. I don’t even have to purchase a high quality video recorder, rent an expensive studio or deal with actors overdosing and dying on me before the voice overlay is done. πŸ˜‰

Wardrobe malfunctions are minimized and temper tantrums avoided. It’s pure fun!

LG Scarlet is running an online contest where you get to direct your own video. The action sequences and adrenaline pumping music in the LG Scarlet video is amazing to work with. You can customize it by adding snap scenes and your own captions and it’s very user friendly.

The contest will be run for four (4) consecutive weeks and there will be a weekly prize for the Director that accumulates the most votes. There will also be a grand prize at the end of the contest.

If you’re not interested in being a Director, there is also a concurrent contest for being a Fan. The Fan wins by having the highest number of successful virals. A viral is defined as a vote garnered (gained in plain English – I just use garner coz the LG Scarlet movie reminds me of Alias) from that particular Fan’s video promo link.

I have tried to decipher that statement and it just means that you basically promote the video you like either via your blog or email and you get an extra vote for every registered user that votes for that particular video link. The more registered users you get, the higher your chances of winning.

There will be a weekly and grand prize for both Fans and Directors. The weekly prize is a Hi-Fi Micro FB163 for every week of the four week campaign and the grand prize is a 37″ LG Scarlet LCD TV!

direct

Now, you can finally be the director of a video without learning to use video editing software with more buttons and menu items than you can shake a stick at.

I’m registered under sixthseal.com as a Director and you can vote for my video at the LG Scarlet site. I’m planning a vote buying campaign where I pay RM 1 for every person that votes for me. Terms and conditions apply.

Terms and Conditions:
RM 1 will be sent via snail mail for every valid registered user who votes for me.
This vote buying campaign is only open to Malaysian residents.
Please send a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) with an RM 1 note in it for processing fees. πŸ˜‰

All kidding aside, head on to the LG Scarlet website to register as either a Director or a Fan and participate in the contest. This is one of the most interesting Internet viral marketing strategies I’ve seen – my hats off to the people at LG.

Calling all armchair/office chair directors! Here’s your chance to Shine (reference intended). πŸ˜‰

The Mummy 3 – Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Press Screening

mummy 3 us

I went to the Mummy 3 press screening at GSC, Midvalley at the ungodly hour of 9:45 am with Timothy, Samantha and Cynthia on Tuesday. It was held a day before the premiere and two days before the official release date. I haven’t been to a press screening before, cheers to Nuffnang for that coz I’m a huge fan of movies.

mummy 3 deposit

The interesting bit about press screenings is that you have to insert your cell phone and digicam into this envelope thing (with an attached ID) so no cell phones are allowed in the theater itself.

mummy 3

Anyway, we got a Mummy 3 press kit with a text insert containing the list of credits and other filming anecdotes as well as a CD Press Kit with goodies like photos, production notes and the trailer and other information. I found it quite interesting to read, it’s not just the standard plot guidelines but experiences about the difficulties of filming in China and other behind the scenes stuff. The press screening also comes with a free drink and popcorn voucher.

mummy 3 press kit

I was looking forward to the Mummy 3 movie coz I’ve watched the first two and found the franchise highly entertaining. It’s nice to be one of the first to watch the movie. Brandon Fraser is back and he’s as good as ever even though he seems to be trying too hard to be funny in some of the scenes.

I loved the plot about The Dragon Emperor which is (very) loosely based on mythology behind the terracotta warrior statues in China. Unfortunately, I had a rather late night the previous night and the sleep deprivation compounded by the extremely cold air conditioning and dark atmosphere of the GSC cinema made me very sleepy (and I have a very strong suspicion that I actually had a couple of microsleeps ;)).

It’s not due to the movie though, The Mummy 3 was great and it has a great plot twist in the beginning and ends well with the standard happy ending that the series is renowned for. It’s a feel good popcorn (caramel, not salted) movie that makes for another great addition to the Mummy franchise.

Jet Li’s character is great, and although he doesn’t have a lot of dialog, his on screen presence fits the character well. He’s menacing and in command. However, it was Isabella Leong’s performance that steals the show. I felt that there was no on screen chemistry between Luke Ford and Isabella Leong but she just has the poise and grace for this particular character (with a slight peppering of melancholy).

Mummy 3 is now showing in cinemas nationwide.

Heineken Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 Malaysia Contest Winners

winners

The submissions for the contest to win a ticket to the Chelsea match on the 29th of July 2008 and the included pass to the Heineken House has been carefully harvested, measured, sieved, filtered, marinated and roasted to perfection. The fermentation process was a little on the lengthy side, my apologies about that, but here are the winners:

Suresh Krishnan-Dass
017-700XXXX
You’re the very first person to get BOTH of the bonus questions right, which is amazing due to the admittedly vague nature of the photos. Kudos for that! You just won a ticket to the match and the included invite to the Heineken House.

Elaine
016-202XXXX
The Blur Queen also managed to get both the bonus questions right. Respect! You’re the second one to do so, congratulations! πŸ™‚

Melvin Raj
016-371XXXX
Melvin also got both of the bonus questions right, with the additional information that the firm was originally known as the Chelsea Shed Boys. Cheers!

Nurvia Ooi
012-395XXXX
Nurvia won by pure virtue of speed. The email was the first one in that had all the questions answered correctly. First post award. Congratulations!

Shakira
016-354XXXX
This one takes the cake in pure effort and length. She wrote a very lengthy email with educated guesses of the possible answers to the bonus questions. An except:
picture two:
you are standing. the clue is firm.. standing firm? or are you talking about a football firm?

answer:
1. Lampard stays firm in Chelsea as I have just read in the newsletter…
2. Chelsea Headhunters, the firm where people formed with the intent to engage in fights and inflict pain with members of firms from other clubs. Riot! Sound like a bit of fun :] I know in 2006 that 2 players received death threats from the Headhunters. I will wikipedia that later to see what I can find.

congrats

Congratulations to all the five winners! You each get one (1) ticket to the Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 match at Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 8:45 PM on the 29th of July, 2008 and one (1) invite to the Heineken House courtesy of Heineken, the sponsor of the contest.

The answer to the first bonus question is The Rising Sun pub where Chelsea was founded (thus the hint “Origin”). The second bonus question with the hint “Firm” refers to Chelsea Headhunters – the football firm of Chelsea.

Judges decisions are final and based on purely unscientific qualitative standards. πŸ˜‰

Thank you all for participating and I’ll be calling the winners to verify their attendance. I want to ensure that all the winners can go, so should any one of them be unable to make it, the ticket and pass will be given to another submission selected at random* with priority given to the first few people who emailed me with the correct answers.

Nike Project Lightweight Design Competition

thinking

Have you ever wanted to be a designer for Nike? Here’s your chance! Project Lightweight is a contest initiated by Nike for talented young student designers. Lighter, stronger, and faster is the Nike design philosophy and this initiative is open to all college and university students to design a future lightweight product for athletes.

possibilities

Nike is encouraging aspiring designers from all disciplines to participate in the contest. You just need to design any product (not just footwear, but apparel etc) for any sport. Project Lightweight is encouraging futuristic designs for a new lightweight product – your imagination is the only limit here.

fusion

The best thing about this contest is that entries are not just limited to a specific medium such as film, art, installation, or product. In fact, complete freedom of design is encouraged! Each entry must be accompanied by a description of the design (limited to 200 words). You can even email a consulting expert at projectlightweight@email-nike.com.my to seek advice or ask any questions.

design

I know what I’ll like to see – a Nike shoe that is lightweight, breathable (but water repellent for those rainy days) with a Bluetooth connection AND a kinetic or piezoelectric energy harvesting system that can power not just the Bluetooth interface chip, but an iPod or cell phone as well. I don’t know how that can be achieved, but hey, think out of the box and all that.

“You run like a girl!”
“My grandmother can run faster than you!”
Have you ever been taunted before? Hopefully, with the latest products coming out of the Project Lightweight contest, we won’t have to put up with those insults anymore…coz we’ll all be running on lightweight footwear! πŸ™‚

That’s the beauty about the Project Lightweight design competition – it’s meant to showcase YOUR point of view. YOU get to decide on what a lightweight footwear (or apparel) should be like and submit your entries to the Project Lightweight website. Calling all aspiring designers of all disciplines. The future is yours!

ready

Ready? Set. Go!

Go forth, and create history!

security

(and design a lightweight pair of trainers so I can outrun mall security next time)

Project Lightweight is offering a grand prize of an all expenses paid trip to Nike’s World Headquarters in Oregon, USA. The winner would not just get a chance to tour the grounds (which is called The Campus, much like Microsoft’s headquarters) but will also have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the “Kitchen”, where the top designers of Nike brainstorm and design new products.

You’ll also get the chance to meet and pick the brains of Nike’s legendary design team!

Project Lightweight Design Competition
The competition allows participants to design any product (e.g. footwear, apparel etc), and they are not limited to any particular sport. All submissions must be made between 1 – 31 July on the Project Lightweight website www.nike.com.my/projectlightweight.

For more information, log onto www.nike.com.my/projectlightweight for full details on how to enter, participation requirements, submission details and other terms and conditions.

The Making of the Oreo Advertorial

script 1

The Oreo Twist Lick Dunk advertorial was one of the ones I really enjoyed doing. I enlisted the help of a couple of my friends and coworkers to participate in the script that I had written. It was more of a doodle of sorts with stick figures of scenes I had envisioned and a rough idea of the text.

cream o

The first problem came even before the photo shoot – there were no Oreo cookies to be found in the entire Sibu town. I searched every single supermarket and shopping mall and it seemed like there was a town-wide shortage of Oreo!

mary frustrated

I finally managed to find out the reason behind it – the manufacturer had recalled all the existing Oreo cookies and issued a memo to the retailers with instructions to take it off the shelves pending the arrival of the new packaging. The ship was supposed to have arrived but it got delayed at some port and no one had any idea of when it’ll actually come.

script 2

I thought about changing the script to a “Pepsi Test” writeup with people being blindfolded and asked to determine which cookie tastes better – Oreo or a local emulated version e.g. Cream-O but that would require Oreo biscuits as well. I was a bit concerned about the uncertainty surrounding the arrival of the shipment of Oreo to the Sibu market so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

poslaju

Thus, I called D, who was in KL at that time and staying at the Cititel hotel in Midvalley Megamall. She was kind enough to go to Jusco and get two packs of Oreo cookies and send it back via next-day courier service. D had to go in search of a box (so the Oreo wouldn’t get crushed) and hunt for a post office at the mall, so it’s thanks to her that I managed to meet the deadline. πŸ™‚

mary stereo sad

In the meantime, I enlisted the help of Mary in my alternate scripts. I remember one of the alternate scripts was about not being able to find Oreo and wanted to title that post as “sixthseal.com and The Quest for the Holy Oreo“. The script went along the lines of being unable to get my hands on genuine Oreo cookies in Sibu and having to resort to having it sent from KL.

hb mcflurry 1

I even went to McDonald’s just to get a shot of their Oreo McFlurry, which was just about the only Oreo containing product in Sibu at that time.

hb mcflurry 2

This was the backup plan in case the package of Oreo didn’t arrive for reasons attributed to our fine postal service. πŸ˜‰

oreo

Lady Luck was on my side though and the package containing Oreo from D arrived the very next day! Thus, I re-shot several of the scenes with the real Oreo. It took me two days to complete the Oreo shoot. One particular scene that stood out was the shoplifting scene.

stealing

I did the first one with Cream-O, a local biscuit “inspired” by Oreo, and I had serious reservations about submitting that since the client would obviously not want to see a competitor’s product in the photos. Cream-O looks almost like Oreo due to the blue packaging but I didn’t want to tarnish the advertorial by passing off another product as Oreo.

caught

Well, the reason this particular scene was memorable was due to one of my friend’s interaction with the clerk at a local supermarket. He has a really funny and sarcastic response during the Sibu Oreo Shortage (TM). We were at Ta Kiong and they haven’t received their shipment of Oreo as well, but one of the clerks said that there had Oreo biscuits and walked with us down the aisle and pointed to…Julie Stereo.

This prompted my wise-cracking friend to launch into a funny tirade against the poor girl.

Friend: Stereo? We said OREO not STEREO.
Clerk: Ya lah, Oreo. (points to Julie Stereo)
Friend: That’s not Oreo! How can you compare Oreo to Stereo? Do you compare a Mercedes to a Kancil? We wanted the original Nabisco Kraft Oreo.
Clerk: (speechless)

Anyway, we didn’t even know if the clerk understood English which was a bit of a mistake on our part. I walked in on Tuesday again to get some chocolates and the very same clerk called out to me and told me that my Oreo has arrived. She then proceeded to talk to a fellow clerk across the counter about getting “suan” (Hokkien for sarcastically teased) by my friend the other day.

clerk

In hindsight, it was really kinda funny. I apologized to her and told her we were only having a bit of fun, albeit at her expense. She was very nice about the entire thing though, so kudos to her for that. I got a DoubleStuf Oreo and the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Oreo to supplement my meager supply of Oreo from KL. I even got her to pose for a photo and we returned the next day to do a proper shot of the shoplifting scene with their ample supply of Oreo as the backdrop. πŸ™‚

Deleted scenes:

sister

Reason: Product placement overkill. The pose with the Oreo is too fake.

shoplifting 1

Reason: The expression on my face wasn’t right. I didn’t look shocked enough – in fact, I look a little bit too aggressive.

shoplifting 2

Reason: Same as above. I look more irritated than shocked at being apprehended by a security guard for shoplifting. I needed the comical horror expression at being caught in the act.

Bonus features:

mary 1

mary 2

mary 3

I was delighted to find out that Mary was such a good model to work with. She has a wide repertoire of facial expressions. She can do sad, frustrated, angry, cute and happy when called to. She’s really a pleasure to work with and has been a great help to this project. Thanks Mary! πŸ™‚

The funniest thing about this advertorial is that most of the shots were done using a single Oreo pack. I had to conserve my resources and had planned out which scenes needed the pack to be open and which ones didn’t. I was so stingy with the two packs of Oreo that consumption was strictly controlled even during the scenes except when absolutely necessary. Heh!

Oreo Twist Lick Dunk

oreo

Oreo is the world’s favorite biscuit and the famous cream filled chocolate sandwich cookies have been “emulated”, shall we say, by a lot of local biscuits manufacturers. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all that aside, nothing beats the original Oreo in taste – the others lag a very distant second, and most of them are quite…well, crappy to be honest.

I’m a big fan of Oreo cookies and have been known to single-handedly consume several tubes of the stuff when I have the munchies back in Australia. I have committed most of the 7 Deadly Sins, gluttony being no exception, and the method I use to eat it is to stuff several of the cookies into my mouth and wash it down with milk. I know, I’m an animal. πŸ˜‰

oreo milo

Oreo has been emphasizing on the Twist Lick Dunk methodology as the proper method of eating Oreo cookies and I have been learning to eat Oreo biscuits with the latest decree. I won’t say that it tastes better this way, since I still prefer the stuff-my-mouth-full-of-Oreo-cookies-and-wash-down-with-milk consumption angle, but at least I’m not packing on the pounds by eating Oreo cookies one by one.

shoplifting

What would you do for an Oreo cookie?

little sister

The sharable Oreo tube packing also allows for easily portability when out window shopping with your little sister.

ot

Oreo is the perfect snack for those OT sessions. You don’t actually have to stop working, and it can be passed around easily for cubicle slaves like us. It won’t even make your hands sticky, unlike some other chocolate biscuits.

byo dessert

BYO dessert. The petrol price hike is affecting everyone. Instead of complaining about it, certain cost cutting measures can be taken to maintain the same quality of life. With the constant global increase in fuel prices, we may stand witness to a trend of diners bringing their own Oreo cookies to share with friends after dinner. πŸ˜‰

rat

This being the Year of the Rat and all, I figured the happy rodent should get his fair share of The Good Stuff. Sharing is caring.

Oreo Twist Lick Dunk

You will need:
Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies
Milk

oreo doublestuf

Step 1: Take one (1) Oreo cookie. I prefer the Oreo DoubleStuf filling.

twist

Step 2: Twist the cookie by holding on to both ends while applying pressure in a clockwise direction. This separates one cookie from the other, with the filling sticking on to one side. I love this bit about Oreo cookies. It doesn’t disintegrate, it doesn’t have half the filling sticking to both sides, and it just twists to form a perfect plain cookie on one side and a cookie with TWICE the filling on the other.

lick

Step 3: Lick the cream stuffing on the side with the creamy filling. You can either then reassemble the cookie or just dunk the other (or both) ends.

dunk

Step 4: Dunking is not just for donuts. You can dunk Oreo cookies in cold milk too. The proper time required for the dunking varies according to personal preference but generally, it should be saturated with milk, but not too soggy.

consume

Step 5: Consume the dunked Oreo. The best thing about Oreo cookies is that it allows for a large margin of error in the dunking process. The Oreo won’t completely disintegrate (unless you zone out for an hour, and I’m not even sure it will disintegrate then) even if you dunk it in for longer than you anticipated.

drink

Step 6: Wash down with milk. I just can’t get over this habit. I’m sorry, I know it’s not in the official Oreo Bible as part of orthodox dogma but I just like doing it.

Oreo is indeed a world favorite and very versatile biscuit to boot. It’s also available as wafer rolls and with double fillings like Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cream. Mmm…

Contest: Five (5) FREE tickets to see Chelsea FC Live in KL

Chelsea Asia Tour 2008
Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 Malaysia

Chelsea is going on a tour around Asia and they’re scheduled to perform at the Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 8:45 PM on the 29th of July, 2008. Heineken is sponsoring five (5) free tickets to watch Chelsea LIVE and I’m going to give them away to the first five people who gets the answers to the five questions below correctly.

The winners will also get an exclusive invitation to Heineken House, a hospitality tent where only invited people can attend. The hospitality area includes light finger food, good music and good company. Also present is the opportunity to win some autographed merchandise.

Chelsea Football Club (also known as The Blues, due to their colors) is probably the second most recognizable English Premier League team. They’ve spent most of their history playing in the Premier League and I’ve had considerable success betting for this team in the UEFA Champions League in 2000. πŸ˜‰

chelsea crest

Chelsea FC was founded in 1905 and has thus been around for more than a century, much like Heineken. Their official crest features a blue lion looking backwards and holding a staff. Their home colors are blue but their official away colors will probably be a shade they call “electric yellow” when they play in the Shah Alam Stadium later this month.

Chelsea is a team to watch out for, having ranked the highest in the UEFA coefficient ranking system after the 2007/2008 season. I tend to root for the underdog so I’m always pro-Chelsea instead of Manchester United, which has become rather commercialized as of late.

Chelsea is also noted for football hooliganism during the 1970’s and the 1980’s and the “Chelsea grin” which I first came upon while watching the movie Green Street. My favorite line from that movie was “Do you take…American Express?” before the GSE (a fictitious football firm) jumped in to save the day. I love that film and highly recommend it to everyone who’s interested in movies.

Chelsea is coming to Malaysia to play against a Malaysian lineup in a friendly match for the Malaysian leg of the Chelsea Asia Tour 2008. RM 50 says Chelsea would win, Asian handicap of 1 goal to Chelsea. Any takers? πŸ˜‰

camwhore

Heineken is Chelsea’s official beer and it’s one of my favorite lagers. It’s a standard 5% alcohol content beer and the interesting history behind the beer is the development of Heineken A-yeast for the fermentation process by Dr. H. Elion in 1886. The good doctor was a student of Louis Pasteur, the very same man who made pasteurization a household word.

This beer has been around for over 100 years and in the good old days of football in England, beer is drunk before, during and after a game. I’m a big fan of Heineken myself and the best I could do is drink it during…

lunch

…lunch,

dinner

and dinner. Heineken is pretty much a common name in Malaysia, having established themselves as a brand to be reckoned with. Most people would associate a foreign beer with Heineken. It’s kinda like the Malaysian brand name association:

When you have a headache, you take? Panadol
When you want instant noodles, you eat? Maggi
When you order beer, you ask for? Heineken
