SugarBun Chicken Burger @ RM 1.91

sugarbun chicken burger outlet

SugarBun came out with a new burger for the Gawai holidays – Chicken Burger for RM 1.91. The burger is available for a limited time only and today is the last day it’s available for sale. I checked it out just now before catching X-Men III.

sugarbun chicken burger promo

Chicken Burger retails for the low price of RM 1.91 for the period spanning from the 27th of May to the 4th of June. It’s meant to target the Gawai (local harvest festival) celebrations, which is also the reason I’m back in Sibu – the long holidays.

sugarbun chicken burger inside

SugarBun constantly adds new items to its remarkable menu (which now includes three layer coffee) to test the market and the items gets incorporated into the permanent menu (which consists of 151 items to date) if there is sufficient market demand.

sugarbun chicken burger meal

I ordered two Chicken Burgers as well as three pieces of chicken (they have really good fried chicken) for lunch since we had about an hour to kill before the movie starts. The tea is my girlfriend’s drink – I don’t like hot drinks.

sugarbun chicken burger

This is what the Chicken Burger looks like – it has a sizable patty, a very generous amount of chicken for an RM 1.91 burger. I didn’t think much of it at first glance since it just looks like a standard chicken burger.

sugarbun chicken burger bite

However, the Chicken Burger surprised me with the topping – it has the coleslaw mix and cucumbers that is a signature SugarBun burger topping! It goes really well with their fish burger and it seems that the coleslaw mix goes well with anything coz it tastes good with chicken as well.

SugarBun Chicken Burger is great value at RM 1.91 per burger. SugarBun may be the poor man’s McDonald’s but it’s the very first fast food joint we had over here in Sibu and besides…

Coffee Bean Taro Ice Blended

coffee bean taro ice blended promo

Coffee Bean came out with a new promotional drink – Taro Ice Blended. The tagline for the new drink is emblazoned on the banner advertising it in front of the Coffee Bean outlet – “Sooth your senses with Taro Ice Blended”.

coffee bean taro ice blended poster

The new Taro Ice Blended promotion is done in conjunction with the 3-Cheeses Grilled Sandwich and the Belgian Chocolate drink which is back for a limited time due to high demand. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is introducing the Taro Ice Blended for RM 12.

coffee bean taro ice blended morning

I went to Coffee Bean earlier this morning to check out the new Taro Ice Blended drink. I did bring along my digicam, but alas, the battery was missing as it was still charging at home. Thus, this post is brought to you by the Crappy Cell Phone Cam (TM). πŸ˜‰

coffee bean taro ice blended making

This is a photo of a Coffee Bean employee blending the Taro Ice Blended drink and pouring it into one of the large sized containers. I opted for whipped cream on top (which comes at no extra charge).

coffee bean taro ice blended

The Taro Ice Blended drink comes out purple – it’s made of taro (purple yam) and it tastes great! Whipped cream is essential to the Taro Ice Blended experience – the mixture of the two tastes creamy with that umami taste.

Coffee Bean’s new Taro Ice Blended comes highly recommended from me. It not too sweet and full of taro goodness! πŸ™‚

KFC O.R. (Original Recipe) Chicken Chop

kfc chicken chop

KFC’s latest promotion is the KFC O.R. Chicken Chop. The O.R. seems to be standard notation for KFC’s Original Recipe now; much like how Kentucky Fried Chicken has been truncated to KFC.

kfc chicken chop promo

The KFC outlet at 3rd Mile Kuching is filled with promotional material for the KFC O.R. Chicken Chop. The walls of the franchise are plastered with promotional stickers for this latest product.

kfc chicken chop banner

The KFC O.R. Chicken Chop marketing spiel comes with the tagline “Treat Yourself Every Day”.

kfc chicken chop holder

The cardboard triangular holders for chilli sauce and ketchup on the tables have been replaced with the new KFC O.R. Chicken Chop promotion, in line with all previous promotional items.

kfc chicken chop news

It’s the latest promotion to hit REAL News (the lighted menu) together with KFC Colonel Rice [sixthseal.com].

kfc chicken chop prices

KFC O.R. Chicken Chop Combo meal comes with 1 Chicken Chop, 1 large fries, 1 serving of coleslaw and 1 carbonated drink for RM 10.90. The KFC O.R. Chicken Chop is also available separately (Ala carte) for RM 9.90 each.

kfc chicken chop sample

The KFC O.R. Chicken Chop has been described in the official KFC press release as “a piece of boneless whole chicken leg breaded and pressure cooked, topped with mushroom gravy, with sliced thin button mushrooms and with raisin coleslaw and golden crinkle-cut fries as side items.”

kfc chicken chop supply

KFC has dedicated a whole platter on their warmer just for the chicken chop, ensuring uninterrupted supply lines. The chicken chop is actually a long standing menu item in hawker stall style “Western Food” stalls. It’s a drumstick that’s has been de-boned and flattened to form a large footprint chicken piece.

kfc chicken chop meal

This is what the KFC O.R. Chicken Chop combo looks like. The mushroom gravy (which looks a lot like the gravy they use for mashed potatoes with sliced button mushrooms added) is served on the side for the user to pour according to their tastes. I thought this was a nice touch…

kfc chicken chop plate

Here is a closer look at the KFC O.R. Chicken Chop. There is a side of regular KFC coleslaw augmented with raisins (which tastes great!) and a side of large fries. The chicken chop retains the end of the drumstick and the other part is pure de-boned breaded chicken drum meat. =D

kfc chicken chop gravy

The gravy is served in the take-away coleslaw/mashed potatoes containers that KFC uses and it doesn’t look like much…

kfc chicken chop plate gravy

…but adds a lot to the KFC O.R. Chicken Chop. It is canonical to have gravy served on a chicken chop (the “Western Food” hawker style stalls usually use black pepper sauce) and chicken chop without gravy of any sort would be quite unpalatable (and essentially undifferentiated from a regular drumstick).

kfc chicken chop meat

The KFC O.R. Chicken Chop tastes great! I didn’t expect it to, but its comfort food to the max. The large cut fries (which is standard in Australian KFC outlets, of which I’m not a big fan of) surprisingly adds to the experience when eaten with the gravy.

kfc chicken chop evolve

The chicken chop concept is certainly “heavily inspired”, shall we say, from the age old “Western Food” stalls in hawker stalls and given a price hike (and a bit of a facelift) by KFC to be resold as something new. However, KFC has contributed to the evolution of the chicken chop in its own way.

kfc chicken chop end

KFC O.R. Chicken Chop really does taste good.

It’s great comfort food…

SugarBun's "Happy Meal" @ RM 7.88

sugarbun happy meal banner

SugarBun has come out with their very own Happy Meal (though this one doesn’t come with a toy or collectible, but legal liabilities from McDonald’s) priced at RM 7.88. I noticed the banner at the SugarBun outlet in Kenyalang, Kuching and decided to check out SugarBun’s implementation of the Happy Meal (TM McDonald’s).

sugarbun happy meal promo

The “Happy Meal” consists of:
2 pieces Broasted Chicken
1 Savory Rice (TM SugarBun)
1 Fresh Pickies (I believe they meant pickles, and “fresh pickles” is an oxymoron)
1 Soft Drink (12 oz.)
…and the font and coloring is remarkably similar to McDonald’s Happy Meal. Trademark infringement kinda similar.

sugarbun happy meal

Behold! The SugarBun Happy Meal!

sugarbun happy meal macro

Behold! …a closer look at the SugarBun Happy Meal. I honestly don’t know why they would want to name this a Happy Meal and risk litigation when it’s just a combo meal.

sugarbun happy meal toy

It does come with a toy though…kinda. You have to insert 20 cent coins to play with the toy though, and you can’t take it home with you.

SugarBun – i’m lovin’ it. πŸ˜‰

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf ice blended drinks promotion

coffee bean ice blended promo

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is having a promotion on their summer themed ice blended drinks. I went there for a drink and noticed that there were three summer drinks being promoted.

coffee bean ice blended lineup

Malibu Dream Ice Blended and Berry’d Treasure Ice Blended is going for 20% off – retailing at RM 9.20 instead of the usual RM 11.50 for a regular sized order.

coffee bean free muffin

The other summer drink – the Banana Caramel Ice Blended comes with a free muffin of your choice.

coffee bean banana caramel promo

I ordered a Banana Caramel Ice Blended drink and a warmed banana muffin (double the bananas, double the fun ;)).

The Banana Caramel Ice Blended drink is great – all of their summer lineup is great if you like your ice blended drinks thick, creamy and full of sugary goodness. πŸ™‚

KFC Colonel Rice Combo

kfc colonel rice promo

KFC recently launched their latest product, the Colonel Rice Combo. I saw the advertisements in the papers and went to check it out at the KFC outlet in Sibu before I came back.

kfc colonel rice banner

KFC Colonel Rice banners were interspaced with their other new product, the Fish Burger. I like the design on the Colonel Rice banners – it’s simple and neat.

kfc colonel rice booth

The KFC outlet had a booth dedicated to promoting the new Colonel Rice. The booth is decorated according to the Padi (Paddy) Harvest theme, complete with costumes from the KFC staff.

kfc colonel rice sorter

There are rice harvest paraphernalia and contest forms at the Colonel Rice booth inside KFC. KFC is having a contest to commemorate the launching of the Colonel Rice with the staff going around to people ordering the dish and asking them to fill in the forms.

kfc colonel rice hat

This is a traditional rice farmer’s hat (inverted). The Colonel Rice Combo contest is open for everyone who orders the meal and the main prize is a trip for two to Hong Kong Disneyland.

kfc colonel rice stalks

KFC went all out to decorate the booth with rice related products. These are actually real paddy (rice plant) stalks. I like the ambience but I think it should be spaced further from the Fish Burger promotion so more space can be dedicated to this.

kfc colonel rice combo meal

This is the Colonel Rice Combo (RM 6.99) which contains the Colonel Rice, a side of KFC coleslaw, and two pieces of chicken. I had a drumstick and a piece of thigh. There is an option for Original Recipe chicken or Hot & Spicy and the Colonel Rice can also be ordered separately for RM 1.80 or RM 1.30 with any chicken product purchase.

kfc colonel rice combo

The Colonel Rice is “a blend of high quality fragrant rice mixed with KFC special aromatic spices and selected sweet raisins” topped with KFC’s original gravy. It never looks as good as the printed media would lead you to believe…

kfc colonel rice

KFC’s Colonel Rice is the perfect complement to their flagship chicken product in a predominantly rice consuming country. It’s a great idea, with one problem…

…SugarBun has successfully implemented it years before KFC with their Savory Rice. There goes “original”. πŸ˜‰

McDonald's McDelivery damn McInefficient and made me damn McTulan

mcdelivery

McDonald’s McDelivery is using a centralized ordering system for all branches throughout Malaysia using its 1300-13-1300 number, which is based in Klang Valley. I had a McAttack last night (not a McHeartAttack, you only get those after the meal) and surfed to McDonald’s McDelivery website to get the number to call.

They insisted delivery services close after 10 pm. I asked them for the Kuching McDonald’s branch number and called that number.

Kuching told me that delivery services is open till 11 pm. Unfortunately, I cannot order through them as I had to go through the 1300 centralized system in Klang Valley.

I called the 1300 number and told them about Kuching’s later delivery services and they insisted that delivery services in Kuching closes at 10 pm. F@*(#*&@#!!!oneone how dare you tell me when Kuching delivery closes when you’re not in Kuching, idiot-on-a-phone!!!!!oneonefuckone!!!

I got super McPissedOff and (insert standard procedure to deal with uncooperative front line staff) and they finally relented and put my order though.

mcdelivery arrive

The McDonald’s McDelivery staff finally reached my place at about 11 pm. Damn McDonald’s…what if I was McStoned and McDrunk and McFuckedUp and drove to the outlet instead and McHit-and-Run innocent grandmothers rolling a trolley while McDrivingWhileIntoxicated?

mcdelivery chilli sauce

…at least they had they decency to give me plenty of chilli sauce. Literally.

Burger King BK Lamb Promotion

bk asian station klia

Burger King has two outlets at KLIA – there is a large one in the public accessible area and other one adjacent to Asian statioN inside the main concourse. The departure lounge BK shares the space with Asian statioN with a common seating area though I’m not sure if the two establishments are related.

bk lamb promotion

I saw a BK Lamb Promotion for RM 12.90 and decided to order the meal since Burger King doesn’t serve lamb / mutton so I thought it was pretty unusual for them to have a lamb meat based burger. I haven’t seen a BK which serves lamb, so I just had to check it out.

bk lamb meal

This is what the BK Lamb Promotion meal looks like – there’s the Burger King lamb burger (wrapped in a BK wrapper that’s labeled “Special”) with the standard medium fries and a medium coke. I’m not sure if the BK Lamb Promotion is just available in the KLIA Burger King or in other outlets as well.

bk lamb burger

Here’s a shot of the BK Lamb Burger – it’s a long (as opposed to round) burger and the bun looks like the ones they use on their sandwiches. It took longer than usual for the burger to come out (also ordered three other burgers to bring back to Kuching for friends since we don’t have BK over here) compared to the standard menu items.

bk lamb burger contents

The contents of the lamb burger doesn’t exactly look appetizing…there is a slab of lamb coated with thick black pepper sauce, tomato slices and chunky lettuce which keeps on dropping out of the burger.

bk lamb burger bite

It might not look like much, but the taste of the burger is excellent! This is what a proper Prosperity Burger [sixthseal.com] should taste like! I love the lamb meat – it’s a nice change from the usual suspects…the Chicken, Beef, Fish fast food holy trinity.

It’s a great burger, flame grilled BBQ style like most of Burger King’s offerings.

Mmm…lamb!

Coffee Bean eXtreme CARAMBA Ice Blended

coffee bean extreme caramba

Coffee Bean has a seasonal drinks promotion and the latest one is the eXtreme CARAMBA Ice Blended. It retails for RM 11 and it comes with the tagline “Get ready to Rhumba”.

extreme caramba

It’s a great drink…the predominant taste is chocolate and no, we do not have a Starbucks in Kuching yet. I’m down with the flu now so I’ll post again tomorrow and reply all the comments then. Cheers!

Starbucks Chinese New Year promotional drink – Caramel Macchiato

starbucks caramel macchiato promo

Starbucks is having another festive themed drink to commemorate the upcoming Lunar New Year with the Caramel Macchiato (RM 13.50). The promotional poster has Chinese letters on it and other festive decors like firecrackers and the tagline is an uninspiring “Celebrating with Coffee”.

starbucks caramel macchiato

I passed by the Starbucks at MidValley Megamall after work just now and decided to have a large Caramel Macchiato. It’s two shots of espresso into foamed milk and it’s decorated with the signature criss-cross caramel topping.

starbucks caramel macchiato froth

It tastes great but for the life of me, I cannot correlate the relationship between a Caramel Macchiato and the upcoming Lunar New Year.

It makes my brain hurt just thinking about it so I’m going out clubbing tonight since all the work is done. πŸ˜‰
