Guide to covering up a love bite

The midst of passion, sometimes love bites can occur at visible places e.g. the neck. This is usually not a problem for most of us. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of passionate loving going on.

love bite

However, it might be a bit of a problem if the hickey in question was done by someone other than your significant other. I would think that your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife would be aware of inflicting a minor hematoma on your neck the previous night, temporarily bursting the blood vessels under your skin. It would be…problematic, to say the least to explain away the love-bite so this is The sixthseal.com Guide to Covering Up Love Bites.

Method: Foundation
(Wrong)

love bite foundation

I had thought that using a flesh colored foundation would be sufficient to cover up the incriminating bruise. I got Maybelline Clear Smooth Aqua Gel Foundation in the Sand color (which is approximate enough to my skin color). It didn’t work very well. It can cover it up to a certain extent, but it’s still rather visible. There is also the need to constantly apply the foundation and it rubs off rather easily.

Method: Concealer
(Correct)

love bite sk2

This is the SK-II concealer that is probably meant for something other than covering up love bites. However, I had shared my predicament with Joyce and she kindly lent me her concealer. She told me that foundation does not and will not actually cover up bruises (or hickies) and using a concealer is the proper method of…well, concealing the incriminating mark.

love bite concealer

I tried using it and it works like a charm! It completely covers up the love bite. Joyce told me that the proper method of application is to rub the concealer on the love-bite and then using a heated finger (generated by friction from rubbing your index finger against your palm) to dab and pat the offending area.

love bite joyce

Joyce is a bit of an expert in these things, being the owner of Envy Health & Beauty. She’s my official consultant on things such as these. πŸ˜‰

Concealer works very well, much better than traditional methods such as rubbing the love-bite (which sometimes makes it even worse). It passed the eagle eye of my ex-girlfriend, who didn’t notice it at all…and she has an excellent eye for detail. =D

Panzer Restaurant

panzer restaurant

I went to Panzer Restaurant last night for dinner. My sources informed me that the place is about to close down and he suggested a bloggers meet at the soon to be defunct Panzer Restaurant before the fat lady sings. Unfortunately, we already made plans for the next weekend’s bloggers meet so thus I went with Faye instead to catch one last dinner before the place shuts down.

panzer interior

Panzer Restaurant has been a regular haunt of mine due to the proximity to my home but to be honest, the quasi Italian fusion food with heavy local influences isn’t really anything to write home about. However, I’ve heard rave reviews from other people. I just go there coz it’s convenient. *shrugs*

cappuccino

She ordered a cappuccino (RM 5) for her drink…

heineken

…while I went with the more manly Heineken (RM 7). πŸ˜‰

panzer crispy breaded prawns

We ordered the Crispy Breaded Prawns (RM 14.50) for the starter.

panzer sweat prawns

It’s served with sweat and spicy sauce, which made me more than a little dubious about trying the dish.

panzer prawns

It turned out alright though, I think they meant sweet and spicy sauce there. πŸ˜‰

panzer spaghetti

I had the Spaghetti ai fruta di Mare (RM 19.50) for the mains.

panzer fish

It’s spaghetti with chilly, shrimps, prawns, fish and tomato sauce and is one of their premium dishes. I do not recommend their “flagship” Spaghetti Panzer (RM 16.50) since it’s a poor imitation of this dish and does not come with the fish.

panzer lamb

Faye had the Lamb Shoulder Steak (RM 13). It comes with salad and French fries as well as the sauce of your choice.

panzer garlic

She’s a big fan of garlic sauce despite the havoc it can wreck on your breath. πŸ˜‰

panzer dragon eye

We shared the Dragon Eye (RM 6.50) for dessert.

panzer dessert

It’s dragon fruit slices with two scoops of the ice cream of your choice and whipped cream.

panzer us

Panzer Restaurant – Catch it before it closes down for good.

Sweat and spicy sauce

sweat

Chef’s special – Crispy Breaded Prawns served with sweat and spicy sauce. I presume the chef would have to have a rather severe case of hyperhidrosis in order to produce the special sauce in any considerable quantity.

Sweat, blood and tears went into the preparation of this dish.

Needless to say, I did not ask for seconds.

Shuttlecock

badminton

I went for a game of badminton after nearly 2 years of a sedentary lifestyle (except for the occasional swim). It was at the badminton court at Eden Inn where we booked a 2 hour slot. I was playing with 3 other people in mixed doubles and I was totally bushed at the end of the time slot.

badminton team

I started up in high spirits, with Faye as my partner. She’s a much better player than I am, despite my regular sessions in two of the three drug rehab centers that I’ve been in where badminton is one of the scheduled sports activities.

badminton round

The first game went in our favor, thanks to Faye who caught the far court landings while I took care of the net balls (lacking in stamina lar, so I had to conserve a little). My heart rate was skyrocketing after the first game and I had aches and sores all over my body (which I’m feeling even more today).

badminton luput

This is what I looked like after the end of the 2 hour session. Luput (Malay for half dead) is the word.

badminton post session

It was good though, getting some exercise to get the metabolism rate going. I felt much better after consuming copious amounts of 100 Plus (an isotonic drink). I would prefer swimming but the competitive element inherent in badminton and other team sports can be fun too.

Sony Ericsson W660i

black box

I lost my cell phone and digicam in Miri during a particularly excessive session of snorting, er…I mean, drinking. I have been procrastinating in the acquisition of a new cell phone coz I’ve been busy with work and I was also waiting for the Sony Ericsson X1 to come out. My previous one was a SE W580i and I’ve been asking Mary (who also owns a cell phone shop in addition to her Kokoberry outlet) to keep me posted about the arrival of the SE X1 Pocket PC phone.

y present

In the meantime, I figured I would use Faye’s backup Nokia cell phone and the 016 870 2069 supplementary line. I didn’t even have time to go to Digi to get my 016 888 2069 main line number back until earlier this week! The 870 supplementary line is meant for the person I call most frequently (which is usually my girlfriend but I don’t have one right now) since the main line to supplementary line calls are free under the Digi 1 Plan package.

se w660

However, Y turned up at my house after work and presented me with a box wrapped in black matte paper. I honestly had no idea what it contained or why she was giving me a present. I unwrapped The Black Box and was surprised that it contained a brand new Sony Ericsson W660i. I was more than a little touched by the gesture, it was really thoughtful of her. Thank you!

se w660 gift

Anyway, apparently she had talked to Mary and asked her to recommend a Sony Ericsson cell phone (which I use exclusively) with a simple camera function as a backup for my digicam. Y got me the SE W660i since I always lose/drop/destroy my cell phones and she figured she’ll kill me if she gave me a SE X1 and I lost it, so she went with the SE W660i just in case I lose it again. Heh!

se w660i

It cost RM 590 for the SE W660i with a 512 MB M2 memory card, which was cheaper than all the other outlets out there. Thanks, Mary for giving her a special price! πŸ™‚

P/S – You know who Y is, Mary, and for reasons that cannot be mentioned on the blog, she must not be named either on the blog or in person. You know why. πŸ˜‰

P/P/S – If any of my future girlfriends-to-be read this, please do not give me a cell phone as a present. It’s a jinx on the relationship. The two girlfriends I had who gave me cell phones as presents are both ex-girlfriends now. Both within a month. Seriously. It’s bad mojo. Just don’t. πŸ˜‰

Hitting the beach in Miri, Sarawak

sand

I went to the beach in Miri on the very last day of my trip there. I was due to fly back to Sibu later in the evening and wanted to hit the beach before heading back so I woke Faye up to drive to the Marina Bay beach.

miri beach family

There were a lot of families and other couples frolicking in the sand and sea over there.

miri beach pier

The view at the Marina Bay beach was great – there’s the sun, the surf, the people taking a dip in the sea.

the artist

Guerrilla advertising at it’s best. πŸ˜‰

miri beach draw

I did this at the Mt. Buller Ski Resort in Melbourne, Australia when I was there as well – there was a snow cam on the net which shows live feeds of the area and I carved sixthseal.com into the snow and asked my friend to log in and grab a screenshot.

enjoying surf

It was fun to submerge myself in the salt water. I find beaches very relaxing and therapeutic. There’s the horizon in the distance, the warm sun on your back, the sounds of waves lapping at the beach. I think I would be less neurotic if I lived in a beach front property. πŸ˜‰

nicotine fix

Faye got my newly purchased digicam wet after a couple of photos coz she splashed water at me. The salt water got into the lens and fogged it up and just wouldn’t dry up.

beached whale

Beached whale (Hancock, little help here?)

I figured I would run back to the nearest shopping mall and get another digicam but I don’t think we’ll have time.

drowning

Help! I’m drowning!

Thus, it was decided that the digicam be left in the car with the heater on and temporarily use the inferior camera function on Faye’s Pocket PC (2 MP) to take photos with.

king of the world

I am the King of the World!

However, much to my delight, the salt water condensation inside my digicam lens evaporated when we got back to the car. Thus, we rushed back and did the same poses for capturing with a proper digicam and I jumped into the sea again for some shots.

miri beach rain

There was about 10 minutes of shenanigans before the ominous dark clouds passed over us and it started to rain heavily. Oh well, at least I got to swim in the sea and bask a little in the sand.

washing sandles

Thus, we packed up and ran back to the car. I didn’t even have time to towel off and take off my Speedo the second time so I was shivering by the time I got back home.

naked

I don’t have any photos of topless chicks sunbathing, unfortunately. However, I do have one of myself stripping naked at the family beach. Hope that compensates somewhat for the lack of T&A. πŸ˜‰

Beach video

miri beach grafitti

I had fun in Miri. It was great, managing to hit the beach during my last day there.

The art of the sickie

mc

I took a sick day today due to an URTI infection according to the doctor’s diagnosis. I have been coughing really badly for the past few days and getting symptoms of the flu for about a week now. It took a turn for the worse last night when I came down with a fever. I went into work this morning anyway, but felt I was too sick to be there, so I went to one of the panel doctors and he told me I had an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection and put me on a course of antibiotics. He wanted to give me three (3) days sick leave but I told him I only wanted one (1) day since there’s a lot of outstanding work to be done at the office.

I’m not being sanctimonious or anything like that, it’s just that I really enjoy what I’m currently doing in the office right now. I went over to Sandra’s pharmacy and she gave me some hydroxyzine gratis which makes me really sleepy so I’m going to catch some sleep and shake off the fever.

I know that one in three sick days are from people pulling a sickie but I’m seriously ill right now (not as in terminally ill, but feverish). The title of the post doesn’t help, but I just thought it would be funny. πŸ™‚

I’ll reply the comments tomorrow. Mr. Sandman is calling.

San Francisco Coffee

san francisco coffee

I went to the rather derelict looking San Francisco Coffee outlet at Miri to grab a quick snack before heading to the airport. I’m clearing all my Miri trip backlogs – this is the final one before the Miri beach writeup tomorrow. πŸ™‚

sfc counter

The decrepit and understaffed San Francisco Coffee franchise didn’t even have a barista at the counter at first. The staff was just lounging around OUTSIDE the premises. I was told that this franchise outlet is closing down soon, that probably attributes to the low morale.

sfc stand

The San Francisco Coffee souvenir stand was unmanned so you could probably just nick some of the stuff if you’re thus inclined. I’m pretty sure the staff would neither notice nor care about anyone doing the Five Finger Discount over here. πŸ˜‰

sfc interior

There were a couple of other customers besides us but the place exudes a general feeling of barrenness (not in the biblical sense).

extreme buzz

I ordered the Extreme Buzz with an additional shot of espresso (RM 16). I needed the caffeine to keep awake during the trip back just in case I become an unwitting drug mule from certain people slipping stuff into my baggage during the numerous microsleeps I had. :p

oj did it

This is OJ DID IT – an orange juice fruit frappe that Faye ordered. I just love the wordplay, it’s cracked me up to no end. πŸ™‚

sfc cheesecake

This is the San Francisco Cheesecake (RM 7.95). It was alright, nothing to write home about that’s for sure.

sfc waffles

The place also serves waffles (RM 4.95). It comes with Heinz marmalade, Anchor butter and honey on the side.

sfc us

I was the only one that was due to fly back that day due to work commitments. I was totally exhausted by the end of it all.

life is good

San Francisco Coffee – Life is Good (except for the staff of this soon-to-be-closed outlet). πŸ˜‰

Island Country Club and Island Pub & Lounge in Miri

island club

I went to Island after dinner at Shiki with Kim and Mark for a couple of drinks. We were planning to head over to a Middle Eastern joint for shisha but the place was closed so we ended up at Island Country Club while waiting for Darren to join us.

island country club

It turns out the Island is comprised of two isles (?) – one is the more upscale Island Country Club where we were and the other is the more chilled out Island Pub & Lounge (also called Island Wine & Cocktail) where Darren was.

island club bar

The interior of Island Country Club is more upmarket with a small bar seating area and more comfortable tables and chairs.

island al fresco

There is also an al fresco seating area running the entire length of the two Island clubs.

island pub lounge

The drinks menu is similar in the two Island clubs – the drinks are made at the larger bar at Island Pub & Lounge and sent over through a slot in the wall to Island Country Club.

island decor

The prices are the same too, so it’s a matter of preference as to the ambiance of the two different watering holes.

island pool

There is a pool table at Island Country Club, while Island Pub & Lounge has more TV sets playing sports channels.

island tribal

I lost my digital camera that very same night and I remembered going there again with Faye, LV and her husband just to get photos of the very same drinks we ordered that day. I know, it’s being obsessive, but I just couldn’t get over losing the photos. :p

dirty pussy

This is Licking Dirty Pussy (RM 15) – a shooter that I had the first night with Kim, Mark and Darren that I had before lounging with a Margarita and then nursing a Kilkenny.

kilkenny

I did the exact same thing the last night, but without the Kilkenny coz Darren already got a photo of me with that. πŸ˜‰

island margarita deluxe

I had the Island Margarita Deluxe (RM 18) – the strongest Margarita on their menu. It seems that the Margarita is the signature drink of Island Club – it was what the waitress recommended and they have three featured versions of the frozen concoction.

island margarita blue

I insisted that Faye ordered the Island Blue Curacao Margarita (RM 18) that Kim had the first night. I wanted to take a photo of the drink for consistency. πŸ™‚

island margarita mango

LV went with the Island Mango Margarita (RM 18). The margaritas at Island are all of the frozen variety.

island club redux

This is from the second time I patronized Island. The first time was with Kim, Mark and Darren during the Miri bloggers meet and the very night I lost my digicam. This reenactment is brought to you by my new Sony T70 instead of my missing Sony T2.

kim me

This is me with Kim on the first night I came to Miri.

island me darren

We hooked up with Darren too, which is a really cool guy in real life.

island me kim

This is another shot of me and the gorgeous Kim – she’s just so photogenic that I have to put up her photos. πŸ™‚

kim hb

It was great to meet up with Kim and everyone else in Miri.

island group

Check out the posts of Kimberley and Darren of the night. It was fun hanging out with them. Thanks for the excellent hospitality, guys! πŸ™‚

Bintangor Rojak and Bintangor Orange Juice

bintangor

Bintangor is a town about 95 km away from Sibu. It was decided that an impromptu road trip be made to check out their rojak and orange juice – the two things Bintangor is famous for. Four of us went in my car on Sunday afternoon:

The secret is out, so she let me put the original photos up.

huai bin

Huai Bin (me) and bengbeng

bintangor sarawak

Bintangor isn’t really far away from Sibu if you maintain a reasonable speed. It must have been the company of the two fine ladies coz we were there before we knew it. The “Welcome to Bintangor” signage is in the shape of the Bintangor orange. It’s the symbol of the town and there’s also a replica orange in front of the wharf – it makes for a good photo opportunity.

wong hung ping

The famous Bintangor rojak stall is called Wong Hung Ping and the rojak (a local fruit salad) is so renowned that Sibu people have been known to drive down just to eat the rojak during the weekends. They also sell the rojak sauce (which is the crucial ingredient that makes or breaks the dish).

rojak sauce

The bottles of rojak sauce goes for RM 7, which was up from the previous RM 5. That’s just about in line with the oft quoted 40% price increase. πŸ˜‰

rojak owner

The proprietor of the Bintangor Rojak Stall used to be a nice, old lady. This is her daughter manning the stall. She’s the one managing the stall nowadays due to the advanced chronological age of her mother. I like her as well, she’s friendly, like her mom.

rojak ingredients

Rojak is made by chopping up pineapples, tofu, cucumbers and miscellaneous other items…

…before mixing it with the special Bintangor rojak sauce.

rojak dishing

It is then dished out and eaten with forks. It’s really a simple dish to prepare, it’s the special rojak sauce that makes it taste good. Bintangor is famous for their rojak due to the excellent rojak sauce that they make…at least in this stall.

bintangor rojak

This is the Bintangor rojak that we drove all this way for. Rojak is a communal dish, you’ll be hard pressed to find someone eating a plate all by himself.

bintangor rojak photo

Here’s a closer look at the Bintangor rojak. The money shot, if you will. πŸ˜‰

bintangor orange juice

The stall also serves Bintangor orange juice. Bintangor orange juice is not made with Sunkist oranges (which was what they accidentally served us the first time) but from Bintangor oranges. It comes in a brighter shade than regular orange juice.

bintangor orange

These are what Bintangor oranges look like – it’s also the official produce of Bintangor. It’s sweet and tangy, with sour hints. It’s smaller in size than regular oranges.

bintangor group

The Sibu blogger contingent at Bintangor.

bintangor camwhoring

True to blogger tradition, we did the camwhoring thing at the Bintangor wharf. This is me taking a pole up the ass while Mary looks on with mirth. Boy, I’m gonna be sore tomorrow.

bintangor photo

It was a fun road trip with the Sibu bloggers to Bintangor. I had wanted to go there for ages to take photos of the famous Bintangor rojak and Bintangor orange juice and the company was great! Cheers! πŸ™‚
