9 am deadline!

genting_nasi_ayam_place.jpg

My apologies, I don’t have time to post the review of the best nasi
ayam I’ve eaten in KL now, but the picture above was taken there. It’s
a small sidelane beside Genting Plaza. I’ll write a full review chock
full of photos tonight ok? I have to rush off to work now, I’ve gotta 9
am deadline to meet, I arrived home at around midnight last night and I
didn’t sleep but fear not, my l33t *cough* programming sk1llz have not
suffered due to that. I know it’s early to be heading to work, I don’t
know if there’s anyone in right now, but I have the key anyway, since I
was the last one to leave last night.

Oh yeah, if anyone knows about a reliable (99.5% MIMIMUM uptime)
host which has been in the business for at least 2 years please leave a
comment. I need 1 GB of space minimum, 30 GB data transfer minimum, and
no restriction on content (willing to host castitas.com). VPS/VDS
solutions would be great, but not necessary. Multiple domain support is
essential. No hosts which has quotas on “multimedia files” since I have
a lot of images. My budget is US$ 20 per month maximum. No hidden fees,
preferably allows hosting on a monthly/quarterly basis to test speed
and reliability.

Does anyone have any suggestions? A lot of hosts has really strict
T&C’s, is there anyone who’s hosted with a good host which fits the
above criteria? Also, a host which has no restriction of filetypes
would be good ie allows MP3, MPEG, AVI files. I know this is asking a
lot for US$ 20 but if there’s anyone who’s aware of any hosts which
goes slightly above that price with all the features above, please
leave a message. I’m tired of browsing the WHT forums and I’m very
interested in ultraunix.net, they’ve great solutions and feedback, but
I would preferably go with a company that’s not in Malaysia (no
offence) due to the possibility of Malaysian authorities exerting
pressure on Malaysian hosts to access server logs and such, which would
violate the privacy of veritas.

I need a reliable host quick, visitors increase each month and so
does bandwidth usage. 40k visitors a month with my large front page
size = killer bandwidth fees. Oh right, the hosting company must not
have daily caps on visitors since I get over 1.3k a day. I have no use
for multiple email accounts and mailing lists but a catch-all address
is mandatory. I have my own domains, so free domain offers are not
necessary, though it’s a plus. Oh yeah, PHP, CGI, PERL, custom error
pages, access to raw visitor logs and MySQL databases (not looking for
“unlimited” but a reasonably sufficient number) is a must. I also don’t
need extras like scripts, FrontPage extensions, eCommerce stuff etc,
I’m basically just looking for a UNIX/Linux/FreeBSD host with cPanel
and I need phpMyAdmin too. Reasonable rates (US$ 3 or lower per GB) for
excess bandwidth would be good. NO SHUTTING DOWN THE SITE FOR EXCEEDING
BANDWIDTH! I would not go with a host who does that. SSH access is a
big bonus. Where are you all hosted? Thanks in advance!

Mega Chicken Delice chicken sandwich @ RM 3.90

mega_chicken_delice.jpg
Ingredients: Fresh bread, fresh vegetables, spread, chicken slice, cheese, spices.

This is what I had for lunch…grabbed a sandwich from Gro-Shop, the
grocery shop at Wisma Antarabangsa (it’s interconnected to Kenanga
International).

groshop.jpg
Gro-Shop

I felt like eating a sandwich instead of rice and this one is pretty
good. It emphasizes fresh ingredients and I was not disappointed. The
bread was nice and soft and there’s a generous amount of egg and cheese
and a slice of deli chicken, all topped with a slathering of
mayonnaise. Here’s a close up:

Binge and Purge

bingepurge.jpg

I bought some dinner home because my gf went for dinner with her
dad. I got Nasi Briyani (with extra drum) and Ramly Double Beef Burger
Special. The nasi beriyani already had a chicken in it. I ate that plus
the sweet sauce drumstick and that pickle and also finished the burger.
I tried to throw up just now but failed. I threw up an impressive
amount of puke last night too. I think I will tonight as well, I tried
to, stuck my whole index finger down my throat but to no avail. I will
try again now. Binge and purge. I will reply the comments tomorrow,
sorry ya, need to throw up and probably lie down and pass out. Er…I
mean go to sleep. πŸ™‚

My MC

MC20Oct.jpg
MC (20th October 2003)

This is my Medical Certificate. I was not able to make it to work
today. Yeah, I’m aware that this is the not first time it happened. :p
I was not faking it, I was not feeling well. I wouldn’t spend half my
daily salary just to get an MC anyway, would rather go to work. Anyway,
I woke up feeling nauseous and throwing up (I seem to have a generosity
that compels me to make offerings to the porcelain god) and with a
migraine.

I went to see the same doctor I saw last time – Poliklinik & Surgeri Dr A. Hadi Abdullah & Rakan Rakan
[sixthseal.com] at Pusat Bandar Damansara this afternoon. I mean
yesterday afternoon, it’s past 12 am so technically this happened
yesterday. It’s the closest clinic. The doctor was not in – I was told
he went off to have a drink. I waited for a while and then got to see
the doctor and told him about my symptoms.

sakit.jpg
Ya, saya tahu saya sakit.

I also mentioned that I usually take DF118 (30 mg dihydrocodeine
only tablets) for migraines and he said that he doesn’t carry that
because it’s a restricted drug. Funny, I get it over the counter in
Sibu. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, the doctor said he’ll give me something stronger and
my ears perked up, hoping to hear Oxycontin or something like that.

voltaren.jpg
When you said stronger, I was expecting something else…

He said he’ll give me…..Voltaren. That’s diclofenac, a NSAID
(Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug). I don’t know how his logic
goes…stronger than dihydrocodeine indeed. This is not “something
stronger”. NSAIDs does nothing for me, real migraine medications has to
have opiate agonists in it. πŸ˜‰ I’m kidding, btw, let us move on, this
was supposed to be a short post coz I’ll have to sleep early tonight.

polyvisit2.jpg
I did not take the photo through the plastic bag last time, I just
noticed that, there was a revelationary moment for a moment, but it’s
gone now, I forgot what it was.

Anyway, this time the doctor filled in the MC himself at least, gave
him my IC and he asked “Any pen kah?” to his wife cum receptionist and
out I went with an MC, a pack of diclofenac, a bill for only RM 20 as
opposed to RM 25 last time, and my IC (he took it to write the MC
remember?) inside a plastic bag.

My apologies for not being able to reply the comments today, I have
to sleep now to go to work tomorrow and I’ll reply every single one
tomorrow. Hmm…I think I’ll have a mug of milo with biscuits and then
sleep. Night people, see ya tomorrow.

I’m perfectly sober, why do you ask?

Midnight at the office

xm_midnite.jpg

XM Malaysia midnight club (bound by a common project) – Ivan, Wai
Hing, Shirley, Suzanne, Huai Bin (me). Kelvin and Ganesh were also
around but not working on the same project.

It’s past 12 am in the morning and I’m still at the
office…together with about 6 other people, working on the Sony
Malaysia’s 30th Anniversary project. I just realized that I am an utter
hack today, I took ages to finish the main page and that’s not even
going into coding for dynamic responses on certain triggers. The main
page was just HTML and tables (I fucking hate tables…) and CSS and
yet I was slaving over it for most of the day. Granted, I was having a
borderline paracetamol (APAP) poisoning (don’t ask) and was throwing
up, having abdominal cramps etc but that’s no excuse…

xm_friedrice.jpg

Dinner was provided though…

The point is…I took ages to do something simple, and that is
really depressing…the images from creative were like jigsaw puzzles,
I can’t write a good table to save my life and I even had to send
Yahoo! messages to Grace [pixelphobia.net] (who claims to eat HTML tables and CSS for breakfast) to ask her how to float text on top of static images…

I am still at the office and if there’s a single word that could sum up today it’s omgwtfbbq.

I really need to update my skill sets but that will have to wait, forgive me for not replying the comments today, work awaits…

Crazy Taxi (KL Edition)

crazytaxi.jpg

Never be late again! Pictured above is KL’s finest taxi driver, the best of the best – he’ll get you where you want, when
you want. This is the second time he’s actually saved me from being
late…I knew it was him from the way he was still accelerating while
pulling up to me and from the tyres screeching to a halt just in front
of me. You want fast? You’ve got fast.

I need to wake up at 6:30 am in order to take the LRT/bus combo
(plus a 25 minute walk), so anytime after that requires me to enlist
the services of a taxi to arrive on time. I woke up at nearly 8 am
today (curses) and the taxi arrived at 8:07 am and got to Jalan Sultan
Ismail at 8:21 am. I shit you not, it’s a time lap that’s worth of
entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Well, maybe not that,
the Malaysian Book of Records then.

He sure needs to be commended anyway. The way he weaves through the
tightest spots and liberally applies his horn and glares at cars who
even dares to inch a little bit closer to the lane that he wants to
change into. The way he bores down on errant pedestrians who did not
know better and got into his way, even going so far as to make one girl
go “Arrggghhh” and jump out of the way. The way he ignores the traffic
police directing traffic and rushes through anyway.

I got to the office and punched in. 8:26 am. I didn’t think it was possible. Thanks, crazy taxi!

XM Malaysia Foosball Finals 2003

Here are the photos of the foosball championship finals at the
office yesterday evening. XM Malaysia has a foosball table in the rec
room and it was decided in the last TGIF meeting that there would be a
competition with several events like foosball, pool etc. I’m in Geng 69
(the company is divided into six teams) but I wasn’t going to play
foosball – I volunteered for pool coz I think I’m pretty handy with a
cue, unless my skillz has atrophied significantly, which could very
well be true if the last time I played snooker with my friends is any
indication.

xm_foosball.jpg

Here’s the score list. The finals yesterday was Team Tofu vs
Screaming Chihuahuas in the winners bracket and Geng 69 vs Junkies in
the losers bracket.

Final result:

Win: Geng 69

I actually made two own goals. Heh! I was sitting in for Chia who
was on annual leave and played offence with Loh on defence. This was
the match that would decide who gets the last place and I thought all
was lost due to those two own goals. However, my skillz (okay, luck :p)
prevailed at the end when both teams were at 4/5 goals…one goal would
mean the difference between winning and losing. I made my men dance and
scored the winning goal by…ok, luck lar. πŸ™‚ Geng 69 didn’t get the
last spot. :p Yay!

#1 = Team Tofu
#6 = Junkies

Maxis MMS Road Show (girls)

maxis_mms_roadshow.jpg

Here are the photos of the Maxis MMS Road Show. Okay, the girls of
the Maxis MMS Roadshow anyway. πŸ˜‰ We went to see Shetland ponies and
found out that the event was over, but all is not lost coz I got some
photos of the Maxis girls and also the Movado fashion show at Lot 10
instead. Here’s the Maxis MMS roadshow, and to put up some semblance
that I was taking photos of the roadshow instead of the girls, here’s a
shot of the booths ;):

maxis_roadshow.jpg

There were four Maxis girls there, but I could only take photos of
two of them before we had to go to the Movado fashion parade. This is
Girl #1:

maxis_girl.jpg

This is Girl #2, which we all agreed was the best looking of all 4.

maxis_pretty_girl.jpg

My apologies if there is any perceived objectification of women,
that is not intended and this is not the direction sixthseal.com is
heading. Daniel was complaining about the lack of girls and you know
how I like to please my readers, so here is the first batch. The Movado
photo shoot has good looking guys and girls so if you want to see
those, leave a comment (it would take a long time to post and I need
motivation :p). BTW, I swear one of the models looked familiar, somehow
I associate her as one of Stephanie’s friends and she used to keep a
blog too? Anyway, I’m sorry I can’t reply the comments now, I have to
rush off to Chilli’s (BSC) soon because my paycheck just cleared so
dinner’s on me.

BB Hailam Chicken Rice @ Bukit Bintang

bbhainanchickenrice.jpg

I went to BB Hailam Chicken Rice at Bukit Bintang for lunch after
mass today. We were in the area coz I thought the KL Horse Fair and the
Shetland ponies were still at Lot 10. Anyway, the chicken rice was
good, this is what I had:

bbhck_mymeal.jpg

Here’s a close up of the chicken:

hainan_drumstick.jpg

It’s a boneless drumstick…mmm, and the sauce is very delicious!

bbhck_kerabu.jpg

This is one of the side dishes – kerabu with chicken feet. I didn’t
order it, it tasted interesting to say the least. Too vinegary for my
tastes but the chicken feet was okay, it’s boneless as well.

bbhck_all.jpg

The middle dish is the chicken rice var roasted. The one I had is
steamed. Anyway, it’s great if you like your chicken rice with the
tender and boneless drumstick saturated with salty chicken essence. I
loved it.

Kempen Kerjaya PDRM @ Bukit Bintang

bbpolice.jpg

I’ve never seen so much police at the same place at the same time.
There was road block at Jalan Bukit Bintang and I thought there was a
major raid or something on a drug safe house at Jalan Alor or something
(considering the armored vehicles and the major police presence) but it
was a procession of some sort. I was there at around 3:30 pm and it was
called Kempen Kerjaya PDRM which I would transalate as PDRM’s (Polis
Di-Raja Malaysia – Malaysian Royal Police) Campaign of Success. It was
organized by MCA, I think. Here are the photos:

armored_police.jpg

Armored police vehicles. If you find one of these outside your front gate, well…you must have done something very naughty.

dangerous_police.jpg

This red troop carrier with a mounted battering ram is particularly
puzzling. To the left are police armed with dangerous clarinets,
trumpets and saxophones.

sonic_assault.jpg

I was overwhelmed by the sonic assault.

k9.jpg

K9 units – My apologies for the blurry photo from behind, I used my
8X optical zoom and stayed my distance coz I’m…uh, scared of dogs.
Especially trained ones. *cough*

bigwigs.jpg

The big wigs sitting on the stage. I think the one in the middle is someone important in MCA.

They’re looking at something…

This is it.

A bunch of police cadets milling about…

Group photo of the female police cadets…couldn’t get everyone in the shot though. How’s the forth one from the left? πŸ˜‰

Okay, this one is for the guys – a closer look at Girl #4.
